Review: Costway 53 Quart Dual-Temperature Car Freezer/Fridge with Wheels (EP24413/24413-CYPE) (53qt/50L/50 Liters)

Read: 15 mins. It has been nearly a year since I purchased my first 12V/110V car freezer, and since then I had reviewed and compared six of them. All were coincidentally rebranded units manufactured by Alpicool, but they lacked features I increasingly longed for: dual-temperature storage zones, transport wheels, removable wire racks, drain hole, and remote app control. The Costway 53qt car freezer was a popular, affordable choice among outdoorsy people with the additional properties I was looking for. Was it better than my favorite Foho appliances? In nearly every way, YES... Almost!

Review: Goal Zero Nomad 200 Foldable Solar Panel (vs Boulder 200)

By |2022-05-10T21:01:56-07:00Jan 29, 2021 - Friday|Product Reviews, Reviews|

Read: 12 mins. The Jackery SolarSaga 100 solar panel previously impressed me with its rigid body, light weight, and quick deployment. However, there were times where I wanted my higher-capacity power stations (like the Goal Zero Yeti 1500x or Jackery Explorer 1000) to be charged more quickly for a variety of reasons. The solution: multiple solar panels or a single, high-capacity one. In this review, I break down the Pros and Cons of having two 100W panels versus one 200W, the Goal Zero Nomad 200. I also explored how to use the Nomad with other companies' power stations (like Jackery) and was surprised how easy it was.

Read: 24 mins. Goal Zero products are expensive. They are also the industry leader in portable power stations with a safety record to brag about. The Yeti 500x became one of my all-time favorite batteries, and when a wildfire forced us to evacuate our home, it was time for us to look for a higher-capacity one that could power our most important appliances for days or weeks. This is our review of the Goal Zero Yeti 1500x, and how I used it with other brands' solar panels and power stations.

Review: Tomshoo Camping Stove (vs Solo Stove)

By |2023-10-12T15:02:22-07:00Oct 7, 2020 - Wednesday|Product Reviews, Reviews|

Read: 4 mins. Wood stoves are a great, inexpensive, more environmentally-friendly alternative to fuel can-based products like the popular Jetboil, and for years, my go to was the Solo Stove. However, despite all the benefits the Solo Stove offers, its inability to be packed small and its high cost made me look for alternatives for wilderness backpacking and for emergencies as part of a bug out bag. As it turned out, I much prefer the copycat.

Review: Jackery Explorer 300 (vs Explorer 1000) Portable Power Station

Read: 18 mins. Back in April, I purchased the Jackery Explorer 1000 and the Goal Zero Yeti 500x later as a result of 2019's fires. Coincidentally, this year's fires on the entire US west coast is actually WORSE with new records broken! I cannot stress how important it is to be prepared for emergencies! Thankfully, there has been an increase in people taking emergency preparation more seriously. When Jackery announced the Explorer 300 with a special launch price and some improvements over the Explorer 1000, I jumped on it for one simple reason: my little boy loves camping and I wanted him to have a mini-Explorer of his own (actually, I wanted another backup battery, but don't tell him that). It DOES look awfully cute to have him and I stand next to one another holding our own Explorers!
